Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. – Arthur Ashe
HPC is here to help our neighbors in need. Central to the success of our mission are engaged and enthusiastic volunteers. We recognize the diversity of talent, skills, and interests of those who live on the Cape. Whether you are looking to utilize your specific experiences and skills or prefer a more general volunteer opportunity, HPC has a place for you. Please complete the application below and we will be in touch shortly to answer any questions.
Meet Our Volunteers!
General Office Support
Assist staff in our main office with administrative support, such as greeting visitors, answering phones, copying, data entry, shredding papers, etc. Volunteers may also provide mailing support by stuffing envelopes and making trips to the Post Office. This position is well suited to someone who is detail-oriented with good organizational and communication skills. No specific experience is required; training will be provided as necessary. Shifts vary but typically range from 3-4 hours on a reoccurring, weekly schedule.
Annual Event Focused Support
HPC holds events and programs throughout the year, including Walk For Home, Backpack-to-School, Rock to Stop Homelessness, and Adopt-a-Family. Each of these has its own set of needs for volunteers. In general, volunteers are needed to: chair the event/program, solicit donors, work on publicity and other outreach, and work on day-to-day planning/tasks as well as day-of-event to assist with set-up/clean-up and other tasks. To learn more about our annual events and programs, please visit our events page.
Marketing and Development
Support HPC's community engagement efforts by assisting in the development of new means to interact with the community. Help us consider more creative ways to engage with clients, donors, and shareholders in both virtual and community spaces. Some examples of positions include Community Event Volunteers (volunteers to staff an information table or speak about HPC at local clubs/organizations), Grant Researchers, Fundraisers, and Photographers / Graphic Designers.
These volunteers represent HPC at community events, and other meetings/events of various local clubs/organizations in order to extend our reach to potential clients, volunteers, and donors. This representation may be in the form of sitting at a table answering questions from those who stop by or may include speaking to a group (for those who are comfortable with public speaking). Volunteers with speech writing or communications experience, in general, are also needed.
Maintenance / Landscaping
We are often in need of assistance for either upkeep or beautification of the HPC office. Depending on the season, some examples of tasks are snow removal, gutter cleaning, landscaping (planting flowers, cutting grass), and general handyman/woman support. Experience and proper equipment are required for all activities.
